Note the sarcasm.
I love this film. In fact it's my fave Universal monster film, that's just opinion of course. I have idolized Mr. Pierce's genius from the tender age of 6 in the mid 60's and I still marvel at his brilliance. If this measly 25 minutes does the man justice I WILL buy the re-release. Once again. Just for that.
I know this isn't my usual optimistic self, but come on, this IS Universal after all. The same cheap company that did those Legacy sets not all that long ago, the sets that should have been the re-release of the decade but fell short due to the fact that no one apparently wanted to spend any money and remaster the films.
"The new 1932 MUMMY DVD is done and due in summer! " So what the hell does that statement mean? Does this, bestill my quaking heart, mean that the film has been remastered? Oh say it's so....Pu-leeeease, pretty pu-leeeease.
Oh and one more thing. Imagine how benevolent Hollywood can be, and how generous Universal is to have promoted so heavily a star on the Walk of Fame for Mr. Pierce. Once again, note the sarcasm. The man catapults sales for decades long after he's dead and the Studio and the industry can't find the money or the heart to show the respect this man deserves and have alloted him a space decades ago. Would it have killed them to use this re-release to get this man a Star?

Friends:
The new 1932 MUMMY DVD is done and due in summer! The documentary is called THE LIFE AND ART OF JACK PIERCE but may be changed. The director originally wanted FATHER OF FRANKENSTEIN, which was also the name of the book which inspired the movie GODS AND MONSTERS.
In the commentary session were film historian/collector Bob Burns, ardent Mummy student Steve Haberman, and special makeup effects sculptor/artist and original Mummy makeup re-creator Brent Armstrong. It was a full 75 (approx) minutes of talking about the film and the U Monsters in general. Rick Baker provided additional commentary but was not on site at the time of the others.
The doc features interviews with special makeup effects artists Baker, plus Howard Berger, Michele Burke, Tom Burman, Bill Corso, Nick Dudman, Kevin Haney, Greg Nicotero, Tom Savini and others. It is a lot of fun and a spirited tribute to Pierce in the 25 allotted minutes. Lots of cool photos and some footage abound. I hope that you will all be pleased.
In absolute truth, I feel VERY lucky to have been asked to consult on this DVD and to have some of my words used in this project. I have been a total monster squid since the early 1970s when I was a schoolchild (I'm 41 now), and I feel extremely fortunate to have turned my passion into legitimate works that people can enjoy. Next, I will throw all my weight into getting Pierce his Hollywood star!
Now that it's done, onto MUMMY III publicity - but please don't damn this movie as it is the WHOLE reason that a new Mummy 1932 DVD is being released!!!
