The realm of comics have been usurped from those recipients of bygone days....kids. Books are more adult oriented and the oft heard phrase....comics, not just for kids, has turned the industry around for the better mostly but many solid kids books were left behind.
It's a neglected sub-genre and any of those that do exist like G.I.Joe, Transformers etc. are all based on toys and are seemingly one large ad. Very few original, none toy influenced, kids books exist.
We're missing the boat gang, give a kid a comic and they'll damn soon learn to read...on their own, often with their own cash. Heh heh
What were some of your faves as a kid?
Here's a short list of mine:
Sugar and Spike , totally written in baby speak go have a look, members.tripod.com/sugar_and_spike/
Stanley and his Monster (Sheldon Meyer did this book as well as Sugar and Spike.)
I just loved the wacky Bob Hope and Jerry Lewis comics.
Dc's The Inferior Five and Marvels Not Brand EECH! both comedies. The Marvel book being a parody of itself. Worth tracking down and buying while still reasonable.
The Angel and The Ape it's about a beautiful blonde detective and her strong are side kick, an 800 pound gorilla.
So go Google all of these and have a look.
