I bought Mary 4 books this year:
1. Pillars of the Earth (Ken Follet) 2. Uther (Jack Whyte) 3. The Dream Thief (Shana Abe') 4. The Smoke Thief (Shana Abe') I do get books as well, but prefer to pick my own. Tk |

i USE to get books. now i get comments like, "well, we don't know what you haven't read, so we don't know what to get you!"
and i still give books. i LOVE to stick snarky/humor books into stockings, little informative books are also good, and i'm a big fan of the book store gift certificate! [i do believe my nephew is too, since he tends to get them from everyone!] |

Same for me Wench, I used to get them when I was younger. Nowdays, unless I ask for something specific, I just go out and buy them for myself.
I've bought some books over the years for others but unless it's a friend who doesn't read a LOT then I would be more keen to just giving a gift card to our local used book store (Ed McKay's) because then they could get more books for their buck :) ---

I think people have learned not to attempt to buy me books. So, now I get plenty of giftcards to local bookstores.

I always end up with a Borders card in my stocking, it's a given.
My Mom is the only person I can buy books for, I don't think anyone else in my family can read.

Every year I'm asked what I'd like for Christmas, and every year I say the same thing: Books or CDs.
And every year I get pocket knives and cologne sets. Good grief. |

I used to give books, I don't anymore. Books are a highly personal gift, akin to giving music, perfume, or lingerie: you'd better damned well know what a person likes.

When it comes to receiving books at CHristmas time, I always make sure to put up some good ideas on my Amazon wishlist.
This year, I bought books for just about everybody.
