I really enjoyed "R-Point".

I believe "Dragonmount" is still around. I picked up my copy at a "Suncoast" video store a year or two ago, so I imagine it is still around.

There ya go Kiddies, have fun--I do agree with Jekyll though there is a lot of recurring themes and images and I do believe the cycle for J-Horror has come to it's end--perhaps a few gems will squeeze through now and again. But for the most part it was fun while it lasted.

If I remember right, "The Host" is a Korean movie as opposed to Japanese. Even so, the Koreans have quietly being adding to the market as there are several out there and I imagine in the not too distant future they will be competing with the Japanese. Several years ago they came out with a giant monster flick called "Yongary" which was a Godzilla style movie. A few years ago they came out with a re-make, but unlike the several Godzilla movies out of Japan, apparently it wasn't very good. In theatres now is another giant monster(s) on rampage movie out of Korea about giant monsters attacking Los Angeles, CA. From what I have heard it is nothing to write home about. In regards to "The Host" (Which I believe is Korean for "monster" or "beast"), everything I have heard about it is positive.

The *NEW* Big Bad

God, I love me a good Japanese horror movie. Got my kids hooked on them too. Watching as my daughter (12 maybe?) sat completely wrapped up in Dark Water. Leaning forward on the edge of her seat for the duration of the movie. Tense for the first 85 minutes and then crying like a baby for the last 5 minutes. She loved it and has been hooked ever since. An interesting note about Dark Water. At the San Fran WHC I made a point of getting a few minutes to talk with Koji Suzuki. Bought a copy of Dark Water and had him autograph it for my daughter. We discussed the films and he said that he preferred the American version. He felt that it was truer to his intentions with regard to the relationship between mother and daughter. While I myself had preferred the Japanese one, it certainly gives a damn good reason to go back and rewatch the American one.

As for other films...
Audition was incredible.
Tomie was major league creepy.
Ichi the Killer. There were a couple moments in this film where I had to pause and walk away. Miike is truly disturbed.
Ringu. It was said earlier, go watch it even if you did see the American one. American filmmakers don't create the same atmosphere.
Ju-On - all 4 originals were chilling
Spiral. Ooops, Thought I was getting Ring 2. This was a twisted little story than became one of my daughters favorites.
Freeze Me was worth tracking down as well.
Double Vision. An American in a Japanese horror movie, but the right way. A cop film, but well done.
Battle Royale was a wild ride. Can't believe you haven't seen it yet. BR2 however was anti American propaganda crap. Skip it.
Battlefield Baseball...I was intrigued by the idea and found it 10 times cornier than Sleepaway Camp.
Bio-Cop sucked. My copy keep locking up, but I wasn't at all bothered by it because it sucked.

Thank you for telling everyone about the Dark Water incident, Dad! I will never forgive you for that.

Anyways. The movie he called "Spiral" was actually called Uzumaki, and yes, it is my favorite. I also absolutely loved Ringu and Ju-On. The Eye was also very good. I believe Dark Water was the movie that got me into Japanese horror, and I was very disappointed in the American remake of it, which did not meet the standards that the first movie had made whatsoever. Another good movie is Pyrokinesis was also an excellent movie which I had noticed on television several times and was finally able to watch from the beginning about four months ago. I really like the Tomie movies, and Dad got me all five movies for Christmas, which shows you how weird I am for a high-schooler.

PS- I had a bad experience recently with a Korean or Japanese movie...I don't really want to remember anything about it. It was a movie about a Weiji Board that had a very interesting summary. But it had almost no horror or suspense at all for someone accustomed to watching horror. Please don't watch it!!!!!

A while back I mentioned a Japanese horror/sci-film called "Dragonmount". As one can see, I got the title wrong, the name of the movie is "Dragonhead". The film is rather bizarre but not bad.
