I think they achieved their agenda...not long after this film was released the MPAA took a second look at NC-17 films in an effort to make them mainstream movies instead of celluloid pariahs. As I understand it, NC-17 won't carry the stigma it did before, so the films themselves can be advertised and shown without malice.
