I've never had to return a defective Xbox game so I don't know what the general policy for those are.
So the question is, for all you who are still using the PC for games, : Are you having trouble returning defective software?

At one time I understood the 'no return' policy on games for the PC. Those old discs, the 5.25 and the 3.5's were kinda touchy. All it would take
is a little rough handling, especially the larger 5 and a quarter floppies, to trash a new piece of software. With the advent of the plastic disk though, I
figure this policy is a dinosaur. A thing of the past. Apparently it isn't. Some places still won't take PC software back if the clear wrap is off. One
gets pointed in the direction of the software company itself which means sending the disk off and having no replacement in hand.

Believe it or not, I never had a defective game, pc or console, ever, so I can't really comment. I always assumed the policy re pc games was to combat
piracy.

I always assumed the policy re pc games was to combat piracy. Me too. And actually, once I had a game that didn't work on my computer (kept freezing in the exact same spot) and I brought it to swap for a different one and they were happy to let me exhange. Then when the new one didn't work they were happy to take that back as well and give me my money back.

I haven't had to return anything in years either. I was just kind of curious as to what others have run into? I was thinking that after Xmas this year I
might replace my Xbucks with a WII. Mary doesn't want to use the thing, and we used to game together all the time but for some reason she's not into
this. I thought maybe that the WII would be a better choice.

The Wii is a lot of fun, but the novelty can wear off quickly if you're not careful. My biggest complaint has been the lack of good, affordable games out
here...I don't know if it's just our local selection, but it sucks, and $50 (or more) a game is a little much: they really need a "greatest
hits" value line.
Whattya you think, Flunky?

Well they really need to pay attention to the graphics on the Wii, as I know they can do much better than they've been doing. They're all sorts of
weird novelty games, but things like RE4 and Zelda kickass.... most of the other games have limited playing value. People are focusing far too much on the
weirdo games, and forgetting that actual gamers MIGHT want to use the system too. That's part of the reason I was almost forced to get an Xbox 360. ... And
are you using Canadian currancy? (for some reason I think you live in canada, forgive me if I'm wrong) if so, that's cheap...

Nah, $50 to $60 per game is still too much, considering that most of them suck ass. I just bought NIGHTS (cuz I'm a sucker for nostalgia and Sega) for
$19.99 at Future Shop, on sale, everywhere else it's $49.99. If I had paid 50 beans plus tax for that game, I'd be in jail now, because I would have
bootfucked somebody. Yeah, it's that much fun...

I figure the WII is aimed at the right audience. Note the sales. Not everyone is heavily into games as the hardcore folks are. For them there's the Xbox
360 and the PS2 and 3. The big industry shift right now is to capture the fringe gamer like me and the Wii does this. Smart move really. Besides folks other
than the hardcores should have a platform their own. I could not imagine an Xbox in a seniors place but the WII is huge for them and that's where the
makers are selling the most machines. I say leave the WII alone and leave it for the fringe gamers and since when is bowling, and golf etc. considered weird?
Or were they the ones you meant to include as you didn't give us any examples of 'weird', so I'm just assuming here.

I think that alienating all hardcore gamers is a massively stupid idea. I am not saying that the focus on new gamers is bad, I just wish they'd at least
make a decent amount of fun games for people who have been with the company for a decade. I own a Wii, and I love it, but I haven't seen a game I've
wanted to buy in over six months, and right now I have a total of 4 games (not including Wii Sports)... a year and a half after I got it. I have more games for
my 360, which I've had for around four months, because they have more variety. I want Wii to crush the other two in sales, ...but I also wanna be able to
play the games I like. They took a step in the right direction, but the lack of decent games is actually making me feel betrayed, because I have a system I
rarely use (the fact that it's at home and I'm at college does really contribute, but even then...).
And Vlad, where do you see these odd games.... 'cause evidently Wisconsin doesn't believe in have that game, along with most of the ones listed online... And don't buy games that you're not sure of, rent them. ---
