I had a nightmare flight to SLC from Saint Louis. I flew American and was rerouted and delayed. From the time I got to the airport it was almost 12 hours later that I arrived in SLC. Since I was doing shirts for the convention this year (again) I had as much luggage as I was allowed to take. Arriving on Wednesday, I stayed at Motel 6 which was about 6 blocks away from the convention hotel. I figured that I would walk with my luggage. Only 6 blocks after all. I did a dry run that evening and it took me about 15 minutes.
Thursday morning I get up, open the curtains as I begin getting ready and what do I see? Snow. Wet pavement, cars with an inch or more, flakes drifting lazily from the clouds... So much for walking. I took a cab.
Find my area shortly after arriving at the proper hotel and set up my "stuff." After that I pretty much spent from 8 (ish) am until 10 pm in the hallway manning my booth. So there was not a whole lot of convention which I saw. A few times I got away thanks to some friends who were willing to watch my table for me.
My overall impressions of the convention though were positive. It was well run. There was a plethora of panels. So many that had I been able to attend panels, I would have likely been overwhelmed by the choices. I made it to one panel. The makings of a serial killer. Something like that.
I also made it to the Gross Out Contest. Can't go to WHC and miss that. There was no official Cullen Bunn entry this year, so the field was wide open for anyone to step up and take the prize. Which was done by Dark Arts team member Whitney Lakin.
Beyond working at this convention? I spent some time hanging out and drinking with some folks. Kelli, Gord Rollo, Mike Myers, Cullen Bunn and some others... Good time as always. Look forward to the next one. As always.
